The Look: Intense, dark garnet with a purple rim.
-
The Scent: A concentrated "dark" bouquet—think black cherry, mulberry, and a distinct whiff of damp earth and woodsmoke
-
The Feel: Full-bodied and muscular, yet surprisingly fresh. It moves across the palate with flavors of blackberry jam and black pepper, finishing with the "grip" of fine-grained tannins that hint at its ability to age for a decade or more.
About the Winery
The journey of the Red Garnet begins in the Vazisubani Estate, located in the sun-drenched Kakheti region—often referred to as the "altar" of Georgia because it is where the first rays of the sun strike the valley each morning. The 2023 vintage is born from the estate’s unique "genetic memory," grown on a 140-year-old noble estate that once belonged to the influential Chavchavadze family.
Winemaker Notes
A Rare "Teinturier" Soul
At the heart of this story is the Saperavi grape. Unlike 99% of red grapes globally, which have clear juice and get their color only from the skins, Saperavi is a rare teinturier—meaning its flesh is as dark as its skin. The name literally translates to "dye" or "paint." In the 2023 Red Garnet, this results in a wine so deep in color it appears nearly opaque in the glass, a liquid reflection of the iron-rich, loamy soils of the Mukuzani micro-zone.
Vineyard Notes
The "Reasoned Struggle"
Crafted by the world-renowned 11th-generation winemaker Lado Uzunashvili, this wine follows the philosophy of Lutte Raisonnée (reasoned struggle). The vines are pushed to their limits in mineral-rich river sediments and limestone, forcing the roots deep into the earth. This "struggle" is what gives the 2023 vintage its remarkable structural integrity and vibrant, high-toned acidity.
THE WINERY
Vazisubani Estate dates back to the 19th century and traces from one of Georgia’s most storied and cherished family lines, Chavchavadze. The Estate has been meticulously restored over the last decade, emerging as a premier wine-tourism destination built around the palace, gardens, winery, marani (wine cellar) and 35 hectares of estate vineyards.
