Natural winemaking is a funny term. After all, nature itself doesn't build containers of clay or wood, squish grapes into them, or pour the results into bottles...

Still, there's no doubt that our Georgian partners grow and make their wines using some of the most thoughtful, natural, planet- and people-respecting processes on the planet. Some of our wines are made by members of Georgia’s celebrated Natural Wine Association, and all are made by the diligent hands of thoughtful, skilled, intentional, diverse farmers and craftspeople.

Care for the land

Grapes crafted into natural wine are farmed with sustainability or regeneration top-of-mind. Our growers strive to use organic treatments whenever possible, they eschew spraying with pesticides, fungicides or herbicides, and they dry-farm their vines to the greatest extent possible. Far from a modern fad, in Georgia, this simple, non-mechanized approach to vineyard work done naturally by hand has been the norm for millennia.

Just the grapes and nothing else

During vinification, or the winemaking process, natural wines are made with minimal intervention and without additives. Our Georgian producers align with the esteemed Georgian Natural Wine Association and focus on indigenous varieties, which are fermented with only their native yeasts, often in qvevri, and are mostly unfiltered and unfined. These are a far cry from factory wines and honestly showcase the true terroir, spirit and excellence of Georgia.

Valuing people

It doesn't matter how organic your winemaking is if you don't nurture your human resources. Our winemakers run small but mighty labels that tend to their team members' physical and emotional well-being as thoughtfully as they do their grapes, nourishing and encouraging them toward their full potential and fulfillment. We partner with these makers because of our alignment in values and our shared beliefs: in the bright future of Georgian wine and its ability to bring people together in collaborative community.

Natural Winemaking Is an Ancient Tradition

Given all the talk about it lately, you might be tempted to think that "natural wine" is just the latest trendy thing. The reality is that what people now call natural is simply the traditional, many-centuries-old way of making wine: no modern machines or manufactured sprays, no fancy gimmicks adorning sleek, showy cellars... just caring for the earth and its fruit by hand, with care and good intuition.

So, natural winemaking, as it turns out, has been the Georgian tradition for 8,000 years. Talk about trendsetting...
