The word Saperavi literally means “paint,” “dye” or “give color.” And boy, does it ever.

Pouring out a bold, opaque purple-red color, this native Georgian wine grape is a teinturier, or a rare red-skinned AND red-fleshed variety. This makes for a formidable finished wine — fascinatingly deep in color and flavor while still lifted and fresh.

This Bundle provides an opportunity for wine explorers to sample a broad spectrum of Saperavi, from lighter, fruitier to medium body to big and bold. It also provides an opportunity for Saperavi lovers to sample our best or to share with friends with a pairing party.

Tasting Notes

Intense, expressive notes of black cherry, blackberry, dried fruit, with hints of spice, tobacco. Saperavi Qvevri wines are full-bodied, deeply colored Georgian dry red wines, made from the robust Saperavi grape and fermented and aged in large, buried clay vessels called qvevri, imparting complex tannins and earthy, dark fruit flavors.

Winemaker Notes

The sampler 6-pack of Saperavi wines are all fermented and aged in Qvevri. Skin-contact duration and the % of skins used varies, as well as the terroir and climate of each year results in variations in intensity, expression and balance.

Vineyard Notes

All vineyards are in the Kakheti Valley of Georgia.
