Anapea Villlage Qarvani produces Natural Wines exclusively using Georgian traditional methods.  The winery uses 2 sets of Qvevris for both fermentation (6 months on skins) and aging. All farming is organic and biodynamic and the winery is a member, and strict adherent, of the Georgia Natural Wine Association.

Mouth is soft and rich with well expressed aromas of white cherry jam, ripe tropical fruits backed by lively acidity and long finish. Velvety bouquet, velvety fruit tones.

About the Winery

Qarvani is a distinctive Ghvinos' US brand of Anapea Village winery, a unique and extraordinary Georgian winery focused on indigenous varieties and traditional techniques. Founded in 2013 by Khatia Darguashvili and her husband, Gocha, Anapea farms 23 hectares in the Kvareli area of Kakheti (NE part of Georgia), and produces just over four thousand cases annually along strictly non-interventionist lines. Anapea Village is a member of Georgia's Natural Wine Association.

Winemaker Notes

Following hand-harvest and de-stemming, the grapes are co-fermented on skins using only natural native yeast in qvevri and aged for 6-7 months. Malolactic fermentation was completed naturally, and the finished wine was bottled without additional sulfur and aged in bottle for 3 additional months before release.

Vineyard Notes

The estate-grown grapes for this wine are sourced from vineyards in the Kvareli area, nestled in the Caucasus mountain range foothills in East Georgia, just inside the border with Azerbaijan. Vines are planted at 300m (~1000feet) on alluvial soils over sandstone, and are dry-farmed. Viticulture is entirely organic with some biodynamic practices.

Mtsvane-Kisi blends are not uncommon in Kakheti -- the blend of bright, fresh Mtsvane with the heady, powerful Kisi is a natural pairing. Less common are those blends that include Khikhvi, a native east Georgian variety known for its high-quality and delicate sweetness in both European and Georgian-styled wines. Generally low in acid and capable of achieving high levels of ripeness, Khikhvi brings a silky, velvety texture to this delicious blend.
