About the Winery

Winiveria was established in the famed Alazani River Valley by George Piradashvili in 2014 as part of the prestigious Château Mere destination winery and resort complex at the gateway to Georgia’s premier wine region. The winery collaborates with local growers and a nearby cooperative to produce high quality wines made in both traditional Georgian and classical European styles.¬¬

Winemaker Notes

Following hand harvest in late September, grapes were crushed and pressed off into qvevri – clay vessels - for fermentation and remains on skins for 5-7months using time honored traditional Georgian method, producing a distinctive beautiful amber.

Vineyard Notes

The Kisi grapes for this wine were grown in the Ahkmeta vineyard near the village of Khorkheli in the famed Kakheti region of Georgia. Vines are grown organically at 600m (2000ft) elevation. Soil is sandy clay with carbonate bedrock.

Kisi (‘kee-see’) grapes are indigenous to the Kakheti region of Georgia. Kisi almost became extinct under Georgia’s period of Soviet occupation but was saved by diligence of a few small growers and is now experiencing healthy resurgence, producing high quality wines from this distinctive indigenous variety.
