Collection: Khvanchkara - Wine of the Tsars.

Khvanchkara wine from the small appellation Khvanchkara in the Racha-Luchemi wine region of Northern Georgia.  It has a story that you need to Google.  Developed by a Georgian nobleman, Dimitri Kipiani, in the 1870, it is a perfect demi-doux (semi-sweet) red wine from Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grape varieties that grow together in the vineyard, intertwined vines, and by the incomplete fermentation method.  It became an international star when it won a prestigious Belgian wine competition in 1907 and has been sought after by wine snobs ever since.  It has been accused of being favored by the Romanov's, Stalin and FDR, who discussed bringing the grapes to Napa Valley until relations didn't go so well between the US and Stalin post WW2.  Khvanchkara wine is a light ruby red color, clean spicy fruit, delicate tannins, and subtle oak owning to its aging in large oak vats.   80% Aleksandrouli, 20% Mujuretuli grapes.  Aroma: Vanilli, Cherry, Raspberries.  Acquisite with soft cheeses, deserts and spicy dishes.
